Dar es Salaam – King Mohammed VI’s visit to Tanzania is “an unprecedented historic event for this country of East Africa,” said Tanzanian Foreign minister, Augustine Mahiga, according to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).“We are obviously delighted by the visit of the King of Morocco (…) that will enable both countries to forge deeper relationships, thanks to the political ties binding the Sovereign and President John Magufuli, who opened the way for broader economic cooperation,” Mahiga told the press on the occasion of the official visit of the King to Tanzania.The Tanzanian minister said, in this regard, that during this visit several cooperation agreements will be inked in several areas such as air transport, tourism, infrastructure and energy, voicing hope to see this visit contribute to encouraging the flow of Moroccan investment to Tanzania. Referring to the opening of a Morocco embassy in Dar es Salaam following the appointment by HM the King of an ambassador in Tanzania, Mahiga said his country will soon open a Consulate General in Morocco.He added that the political relations between Morocco and Tanzania date back to the 1960s, at the time of late Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere and King Mohammed V, who maintained important links concerning the African independence movement. read more
