Photograph Liam Burke/Press 22THE University of Limerick this week presented almost €100,000 worth of scholarships to its first year students in recognition of their Leaving Certificate achievements.UL awarded 49 first year students €2,000 entrance scholarships for the fourth year running.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up The entrance scholarships, which are offered to students who began their undergraduate studies in the autumn semester for the academic year 2015/16, were established in 2012 as the University celebrated its 40th Anniversary.President of UL, Professor Don Barry congratulated all the recipients: “To our award winners today let me say that I have no doubt that your work ethic and drive for excellence will be the foundation for your success in the years ahead. This occasion offers the due public recognition of your hard work, dedication and achievement. It is also a day of pride for your families and friends. I wish you continued success and we look forward to hearing about your progress in the years ahead.”Awardees were joined at a special presentation ceremony in UL by their parents and former school principals.Each student received a commemorative certificate marking their significant achievement.The Scholarships are awarded to incoming students based on their performance in the Leaving Certificate determined by their CAO points.The scholarships are on offer across all disciplines including nine scholarships for each faculty of Science and Engineering, Kemmy Business School, Education and Health Sciences, and Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.  There are also two scholarships for the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and two scholarships for inter-faculty programmes such as BA Law and Accounting and BA International Insurance and European Studies.In addition ten scholarships were awarded to incoming mature students and five Women in Engineering Awards were also presented to top scoring female applicants to programmes in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.Also presented on the day were: The University Mature Student Scholarship, The Microsemi Scholarship, The Stryker Scholarship, The Edith and Leslie Downer Scholarship, The Elaine Fagan Scholarship and The Paddy Dooley Scholarship.
