An annual training exercise that puts oil and gas industry workers to the test of containing an oil spill had a positive outcome, says a representative from Western Canada Spill Services.“They did very well. They were able to achieve containment within 45 minutes working together as a team,” said WCSS Communications and Training Co-ordinator Shannon Jarrell. “During the debrief, everyone felt much more prepared – that was the general feeling.”She said the participants responded positively when asked if they would know what to do should an event like this happen for real.- Advertisement –The exercise took place yesterday morning on the Beatton River at 8:30, and crews wrapped up at 2:30 PM. Out of 100 expected attendees, 99 were present for the exercise.Beatton River was chosen because it is an ideal control point, with a large area for equipment, as Jarrell says. The exercise starts with overview of WCSS for attendees, where they describe equipment available in the area.Advertisement Then there is typically presentation from the regulator, who is a representative from oil and gas commission or ministry of environment – or can be both.A demonstration is conducted on dry land, and then volunteers form and plan and deploy the equipment.WCSS is not a response organization – they’re a co-op that maintain the equipment, and provide training for member companies.WCSS has 18 co-op areas, and this one covers Northeastern BC, in Fort Nelson and Fort St. John.Advertisement Fort Nelson workers participated in a tank truck rollover simulation on July 8th.
Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has revealed he is aware of Manchester United’s interest in his signature. The 26-year-old shot-stopper knows Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal well from his time in charge of the Netherlands and is expected to bid for Cillessen if David de Gea moves to Real Madrid this summer.“Of course, you hear some things about it through the media,” the former NEC star told Ajax’s official site when asked about being linked with a switch to the Premier League.“But I keep myself away from it [speculation] actually and I have not heard from my agents.”Cillessen, who started every match under Van Gaal at the 2014 FIFA World Cup as Holland recorded a third place finish, is contracted to the Dutch giants until 2018.And it has been revealed by sources in Amsterdam that it would take a sizeable bid for United to capture the goalkeeper this summer. The Ajax No.1 continued: “I have it really good with Ajax.“I am enjoying myself and I started training again with great pleasure.” 1 Jasper Cillessen in action for Ajax
